- Consultation regarding deck and stair construction without a required permit.The following inspection was performed following the 2021 International Residential Code.This is the current code adopted by The City of Decatur.The following deficiencies were noted:1. A permit is required for any alterations or additions to an existing structure.R-105.1 Permits Required2. No footing inspections were performed. R-109.1.1 Foundation Inspectiona. Unable to verify footing depth or width. R=507.3.1 Minimum Size Footings3. No framing inspections were performed, prior to completion, to verify conformance to city code. R-109.1.4a. The deck ledger board was installed over the existing siding, with no vapor barrier or drip edge installed. R-507 Decksb. There is no joist blocking at the beam or any uplift retaining clips installed.R-507.6.2 Deck Joist Lateral Restraintc. There are no galvanized carriage bolts fastening the beam to the post.R-507.5.1(1) Deck Beam to Deck Postd. Bugle head screws are not an approved fastener for angle brackets or post anchor brackets. R-507.2.3 Fasteners and Connectorse. The stair system landing does not have positive bearing on the 4x4 posts.R-507.5.1(2) Notched Post to Beam Connectionf. Stair risers can not vary more then 3/8 inch in the stair system run. R-311.7.5.1 Risersg. Riser covers are required for stairs having more then a 4 inch gap at the riser.R-311.7.5 Stair Treads and Risersh. Graspable rails must be consistent in height along the entire run and be installed between 34 and 38 inches in height from the leading edge of the stair tread.R-311.7.8.4 Continuityi. There is a visible void in the siding, at the west end of ledger, at the deck level, that will allow water intrusion into the house.j. Guard posts must be able to withstand 200 lbs. of lateral force, without excess movement. R-312 and R507.10 Exterior Guardsk. There are no approved stair stringer brackets to secure stringers to framing.l. The east end of the beam does not have positive bearing on the post.R-507.5.1 Deck Beam BearingJ. There are no lateral tensioning devices. R-507.9.2 Lateral Connection4. No final inspection was performed, to verify conformance to city code.R-109.1.6 Final Inspection
